FC Kaiserslautern shocked Hertha Berlin 2-1 in the quarterfinals of the DFB Pokal on Wednesday, dashing the hosts' hopes of reaching the final in their own stadium.
Hertha, who had won their previous four matches in all competitions, took the lead through Lucas Tousart in the 26th minute. But Kaiserslautern, who are currently playing in the German third tier, fought back and equalized through Hendrick Zuck in the 62nd minute.
The visitors then took the lead for good in the 78th minute through Marlon Ritter. Hertha pushed for an equalizer in the closing stages, but Kaiserslautern held on to secure a famous victory.
The win was Kaiserslautern's first over Hertha in the DFB Pokal since 1991. It is also the first time that a third-tier team has reached the semifinals of the competition since 2002.
Kaiserslautern will now face either Bayern Munich or Borussia Dortmund in the semifinals on 20 April.
